Christopher Lee is currently Associate
Principal Flute of the Toronto Philharmonia. He joined the orchestra
in 1990 and also held the Principal Flute position with the
Band of The Royal Regiment of Canada from 1988 to 1991, an ensemble
with which he toured and recorded. Since 1994 he has also performed
with the Huntsville Festival Symphony at the Huntsville Festival
of the Arts held every summer.
He has appeared as soloist with numerous
ensembles including the Toronto
Philharmonia, Royal Conservatory Orchestra, the Band of
The Royal Regiment of Canada, members of the University of
Toronto Symphony and a televised performance with the Etobicoke
Symphony. Among his many recitals with pianist John Alonso, was a performance at the
British Embassy Church of St. George, Madrid, Spain and a
special concert in 1994 to benefit the Seville Opera House.
He began formal study of flute
at age 19 at the Royal Conservatory of Music of Toronto. One
year later in 1988, he entered the Faculty of Music, University
of Toronto and was subsequently awarded the licentiate in
flute performance from Trinity College of Music, London, England.
His teachers have included
Peg Albrecht (formerly of the Oslo Philharmonic) and the internationally
renowned soloist, Susan Hoeppner. Other coaches include some
of the world's most acclaimed flautists, William
Bennett (UK), Donald Peck (USA), Julius Baker (USA), Per
Oien (Norway) and Camille Watts (Canada, Toronto Symphony).
Chris has performed with several
other orchestras including the Windsor Symphony, the Hamilton Ballet Orchestra, Toronto Sinfonietta,
and the North York Symphony. He was also one of two flautists
chosen from nationwide auditions to participate in the Orchestral
Training Program at the Royal Conservatory of Music. In addition,
he has worked under the baton of numerous conductors including
Kerry
Stratton (Canada), Enriquez Batiz (Mexico), Georg Kugi
(Austria) and Jose Luis Garcia (UK).

In 1996 he founded and performed
with the woodwind sextet known as Les Six whose members represented
some of Toronto's finest wind musicians: Barbara Bolte, oboe;
Peter Stoll, clarinet; Christian Sharpe, bassoon; Darcy McFadyen,
french horn and pianist Tania Lee Osmond. Les Six made their
debut concert in March of 1997 which was recorded and broadcast
by CBC Stereo. He continues to perform regularly with his colleagues in chamber music concerts ranging from flute and harp to repertoire for flute, clarinet and strings.
A popular
soloist, chamber musician and teacher, Chris has performed
in Canada, the United States, and Europe. There have
been performances for the heads of state (former and current)
of Canada, the United States, the United Kingdom and Norway,
and his performances have been aired on CBC radio and television.
Chris performs exclusively
on a custom, handmade ALTUS
flute of Japan.
